The existing Renewable Energy Target lets households cut power bills with affordable solar.

The Australian Solar Council has been in discussions with key political parties to determine their support for maintaining the existing Renewable Energy Target, and it will be announcing this support on Saturday.
“We asked all political parties to commit publicly to saving solar and the Renewable Energy Target,” said Australian Solar Council Chief Executive John Grimes.
A full-page advertisement in the West Australian on Saturday will feature a voter scorecard showing which parties support solar and support maintaining the existing Renewable Energy Target.
TV commercials will roll out across all stations from today featuring a young family who wants to cut their power bill with solar.
“Politicians know Australians love solar because it cuts household power bills. They know that supporting the Renewable Energy Target at the Senate election will deliver them votes.”
“Not supporting the Renewable Energy Target will cost them votes.”
Why the Renewable Energy Target matters for householders
The Renewable Energy Target helps householders get affordable solar to cut their power bills, and supports big solar as well.
The Renewable Energy Target left as it is can deliver 700 megawatts of big solar in WA creating 7,000 construction jobs by 2020.
The Australian Solar Council has launched the campaign to encourage householders hit hard by rising power bills to vote for parties that support solar and the Renewable Energy Target in the WA Senate election.
“More than 500,000 West Australians with solar know solar cuts power bills and we want to make sure all West Australians can have access to solar. The Renewable Energy Target helps people who want to invest in solar for their homes.”
“The gutting of the Renewable Energy Target would be a disaster for Australian families and the 18,000 workers in Australia’s solar industry.”
“Solar saves money and creates jobs. By 2015-16, all Australians will be better off with the rooftop renewable energy target in place, as the wholesale cost of electricity continues to fall. All Australians will be financially worse off if the rooftop scheme is scrapped or wound back. Five million Australians are already benefitting from reduced power bills through solar hot water and solar electricity.”
“More than 12,000 Australians (1,200 West Australians) would lose their jobs if the Renewable Energy Target was axed”, said Mr Grimes.
“The future of the Renewable Energy Target will be a key issue in the WA Senate election. From our questions to candidates householders will know which candidates commit help them reduce their power bills.”
